What does authentic look like to you? When I think about and hear the word authentic I make the assumption that something is real. The definition of authentic is worthy, made or done the same way as the original, or not false. In the society we live in it is hard being authentic. We are bombarded with messages that we are too fat, too thin, too dark, too light, and the list goes on and on.
What is the benefit of being authentic? In order to live your life to the fullest it is important that you live a life of authenticity. When we try to be what we are not we live a lie. God has made each one of us authentic. No two people are exactly alike not even twins.
Why should we strive for authenticity? Being authentic allows us to live the life that you were destine to live. When we live a life that is authentic 1) folks respect us more, and 2) you don’t have to pretend you are someone you are not. Living a life of authenticity cuts to the core of who you are, what you believe in, where you are at current in your situation, and what type of action plan you can realistically accomplish.
When I am coaching clients I encourage them to do several things to live in authenticity.
1. Accept who they are - I remind them of Psalm 139:14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, my soul knows it very well. God has made you fearfully with great respect and wonderfully unique set apart.
2. Make other respect who they are – Set boundaries so that people respect who you are. Don’t try to please others but always try to please God. Psalm 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth. If you don’t accept who you are then others will not accept who you are.
3. Love who you are – Take the time to care for your body, soul, mind, and spirit. Take time out for you. Find out what moves you and really get you flowing. Discover your hidden passions, desires, wants, etc.
I challenge my readers this week to sit down and write out a list of attributes that makes you different from anyone else you know. Once you have completed this list send me an e-mail at meverett24@verizon.net so that I can guide you into living in authenticity. Please go to www.
